Rochester: Jan Raymond Haase, Ph.D., of Rochester, NY and The Villages, FL, departed this life on Friday, December 12, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlotte and Julius, and sister Joan V. Arthur.

Jan is survived by his dearly loved wife of 51 years, Carole Schrack Haase; his cherished daughters, Jennifer Tompkins (Robert) and Melissa Haase (Robbie S. Robinson); grandchildren, Samuel, Charlotte and Benjamin Tompkins and Alex Robinson. Also survived by step-sister and brother, Jane Grimes MacLennon and Paul Preston; sister-in-law, Patricia Hogeboom and nephews, Christopher and Matthew.

Born in Buffalo, NY, Jan attended Kensington High School where he met his lifetime sweetheart Carole. After graduating from the University of Buffalo, Jan earned his Doctorate in Organic Chemistry from New York University. His career at Eastman Kodak included positions as Research Laboratory Head and Director of New Opportunity Development. Dr. Haase was the holder of numerous patents relating to dye and imaging technology. Following his retirement from Kodak, Jan formed his own consulting business dedicated to fostering new business opportunities and strategies for business development in the Rochester Community.

Jan loved to laugh and bring laughter to others. He was known for his wit and eclectic mix of interests. He inherited a lifelong passion for fishing and boating from his father and was the captain of many family boating adventures in the Thousand Islands and Canada. Carole and Jan enjoyed many diverse travel experiences in the US and abroad. At their winter home in Florida, Jan was involved in fishing, reading and science clubs and was noted for his informative lectures. Jan had an incredible thirst for knowledge and loved to engage in discussions covering a wide range of topics from sports to philosophy to technology and, of course, anything related to his lifelong passion - science.

Friends may call at the Leo M. Bean and Sons Funeral Home, 2771 Chili Ave., Tuesday, Dec. 16th from 3-7pm.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 17th, 11:00am at the Church of the Epiphany, 3285 Buffalo Rd., Rochester, NY 14624

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jan's name to Chili Public Library, 3333 Chili Ave., Rochester, NY 14624, or to the JVB Scholarship Fund at the Church of the Epiphany.
