She is survived by husband, James Lanny, daughter Rebecca (Bonnie), sons Jeremy and Jon (Matthew), grandsons Kyle and William, sister Barbara Mason (Bryan TX), sister-in-law Mary Dunn (College Station TX), mother-in-law H. Faye Tucker (Adrian MI), brothers-in-law Chris (Melissa) Tucker (Columbus OH) and Tim Tucker (Ypsilanti, MI), and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Born in Ranger TX, Betty received a diploma in nursing from Scott & White Medical Hospital (Temple, TX), a BS degree in nursing from Texas Christian University, an MA degree from NYU. She taught nursing at Skidmore College and studied at UR/Strong Memorial Hospital to become a pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP). During her nursing career, she worked in pediatric units at several NYC hospitals, at the Strong Memorial Hospital pediatric outpatient clinic, the Arlington VA public health department, Dr. William Morehouse’s medical office (His Branches), and as a school nurse and health teacher at Lima Christian School. She often expressed joy at helping deliver hundreds of babies during her career and helping many young mothers and children as a PNP.
Having become a follower of Jesus as a young person, she was a faithful member of several Christian congregations during her life, most recently at New Hope Community Church in N. Chili, NY.
Betty was a loving, faithful, intelligent, and generous woman who served others and was devoted to her husband, children, foster children, patients, students, neighbors, and numerous friends worldwide. We were all blessed to be a part of her life as she lived to show God’s love. Since 2007, she was loved by several caregivers to whom we are grateful: Barbara Ives (full time), Beverly Guthrie, Dolly Daniels, Gila Balman, Nancy Nasso, Charlene DeCory, Susan Roesser, Andrea Burns, Sarah Ives, and Ruth Ives.
“Mom” was blessed by daughter Rebecca who took care of her on Sundays for many years. Special thanks to faithful friend Kathy Hill who visited Betty weekly during her long illness. Our family is grateful to Dr. Anton P. Porsteinsson of the UR Memory Disorder Clinic who guided us through this 15-year journey, and to the very caring and encouraging hospice professionals at the Visiting Nurse Service of Rochester.
Visiting hours will be Sunday 2-5 pm at the Leo M. Bean & Sons Funeral Home,. A memorial service will be held Tuesday evening at 7 pm at the New Hope Community Church, 3355 Union Street (N. Chili).
In lieu of flowers, any memorial gift can be sent in Betty’s honor to Patrick Place (comfort care home being built), 99 Main St., P.O. Box 73, Scottsville, NY 14546 or to the Student Scholarship Fund at Lima Christian School 1575 Rochester St., Lima NY 14485.
